About Garrett

Garrett Madison began guiding professionally in 1999 on Mount Rainier, and is now America’s premier Everest climber and guide. As Expedition Leader, he has personally lead 37 climbers to the summit of Everest over the last 7 years, more than any other American. In 2011, Garrett led the first expedition in history where climbers succeeded in the Everest – Lhotse combination, reaching the summit of two 8000 meter peaks in less than 24 hours (while personally guiding one climber peak to peak in 21 hours), and again repeated this “double header” in 2013. Garrett is currently the only climber in the world to repeat this “peak to peak” combination, and holds the record for guiding climbers (4) in this endeavor. In 2014, Garrett led the first ever successfully ‘guided’ ascent of K2, arguably the hardest and most dangerous mountain in the world, reaching the summit with 2 climbers and 3 Sherpas on July 27, 2014. Garrett also regularly guides many “7 Summits” expeditions such as Aconcagua, Vinson, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, etc., during the year. In addition, Garrett is regularly involved with film productions on Everest, participating in 4 different features over the last 3 years.

December 30, 2017….Punta Arenas, Chile (on straight of Magellan) delayed a few days here at the tip of South America, awaiting flight this evening to Antarctica to climb Mount Vinson. A pause to reflect on 2017, a year of incredible experiences with amazing people. Highlights include summitting Mount Everest with my team, seeing the view from the top of the world on May 23rd, my 8th summit of Everest, our team leading the way. Other notable experiences include leading an expedition to summit a previously unclimbed peak over 22,000’ in the Himalayas, climbing the highest peak in Europe from the north and south sides (Mount Elbrus), and climbing the highest peak in Western Europe, Mont Blanc. Another new experience for me was climbing the highest peak in Australasia, Carstensz Pyramid, a rock tower deep in the jungle of Papua. Climbed my ‘hometown’ peak, Mount Rainier, a few times and Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro in a charitable effort raising over $10,000 to protect endangered wildlife. The pleasure of skiing to the South Pole in Antarctica, then climbing the highest peak on the continent, Mount Vinson. Aside from climbing, I filmed two shows set to air on network television in 2018, one about my career leading expeditions up the highest peaks and the other about some of the remarkable people I climb with. Happy one of our Everest climbers graced the cover of Sports Illustrated, he deserved recognition, congrats Jeff! I’m surrounded by a wonderful team that supports me and climbers I share adventures with, thanks to everyone I shared time with! For 2018, I plan to build on what we accomplished in 2017, continue helping climbers achieve lofty goals and realize dreams, climbing more of the highest, remote, unclimbed, and beautiful mountains in the world! @madisonmtng @mountainhardwear @musclepharm #Antarctica #SouthPole #MountVinson #sevensummits #7summits #MPNaturalSeries, #MusclePharm #MPNation #WeLiveThis #International #Climb #Mountaineering #AdventureTravel #Mountain #Climbers #HighCamp #Expedition #Logistics #BaseCamp #Trek #Adventure

Speaking

Leading 7 expeditions to Mt. Everest and having observed hundreds of climbers in challenging situations on the mountain, Garrett Madison has identified which techniques work, and more importantly which techniques do not work, in scaling the world’s highest Peak. Garrett articulates his strategy for success and survival on Everest, and touches on the following topics:

  • How to lead a diverse group of individuals through challenging circumstances and achieve success.
  • The Everest & Lhotse combination climb.
  • How to mitigate risk on Everest and the high mountains.
  • Garrett’s recent successful climb of K 2, the world’s second highest peak.

Garrett Madison’s presentation will engage your audience like never before as he recounts real life events that have shaped his strategy for success on Everest, with stunning video and photo content that will bring you directly to the mountain.

“What a great presentation! Everyone was riveted during your talk! The images were outstanding and your message really resonated with everyone. Several people told me that this was the best dinner speaker ever. I think you inspired some future mountain climbers!”
